My Family
My full name is Derek Peter Gregory. I was born in Fulham, London, and I now live in Castle Cary, Somerset UK. I was married to Anne', nee Jonas, in 1954 and she died in 1997. I am retired from a career in Research in various branches of Chemistry ad Chemical Engineering related to the Energy Industry.
I have a son Martin who was born in 1957 in Basingstoke. He lives in San Rafael California USA, a little North of San Francisco. He is married to Cindy, nee Pavlinac. She still uses that name professionally. They have no children. Martin is a computer software writer, self employed and has specialised in digital camera software and apps for portable phones and tablets. Cindy is a photographer, also self employed, and specialises in "sacred places" and labyrinths.
I have a daughter Jaqueline who was born in Chester in 1959. She lived near Winchester until 2011 and later moved to the tiny hamlet of Pylle, south of Shepton Mallet, Somerset. She was married to Christopher (Kit) Neilson, divorced and married Mike Bartlett. She has two sons with Kit. She worked in real estate, employment agency and for a long time in School catering. Mike was a Maintenance Engineer in the food chiller industry, but is now retired. In late 2012, they are about to move to Manchester.
Grandson Tom graduated from Chester University in 2010 and is a history teacher in Manchester. He married Sophie Mitchell-Brady in April 2019.
Sophie is Tom's wife. She is a schoolteacher in Manchester. Just before my 90th birthday in 2021 Sophie gave birth to my great grandson, Ned.
Grandson Jamie graduated from Hereford College of Art in 2012, specialising in clay figure animation
I was married to Anne Greville Jonas, born in 1931. She was a UK-trained nurse, worked as the manager of an antique shop in America, then became an antique dealer in Somerset. She died in 1977.
Since 1997 I have lived alone, in Batcombe and then in Castle Cary, both in Somerset. In April 2019 I suffered a stroke, which put me in hospital for over six weeks, and in the care of physiotherapists for another three months. My walking had been getting more difficult for several years, and was severely damaged. I had to sell the car and rely on a Rollator, a kind of wheeled walking aid. As of Nov 2020, I can live alone, feed myself and mange the stairs.
